Butterly Scene /Art Journal

Happy Wednesday!!
Are you ready for some art journal inspiration??

I used Deco Art Media Fluid Acrylics and Rebecca Baer stencil Enchanted Vine-LG
I always gesso my pages before I start my page. The fluid acrylics are used sparingly.  One drop goes a long way!  I used my fingers to rub it around my page.I laid the stencil down and did additional rubbing of paint in the stencil after freehand sketching the butterfly in. I wanted to be sure the main stenciling was done around the butterfly.

I painted several coats of the fluid acrylics on the butterly.  The carbon black covers extremely well!
To finish it up-I painted in all the white parts.

I hope you'll try the stencils in your journals or canvas projects! They have lots of good details.
Thanks for stopping by!

Modeling Paste & Stencils/Mixed Media

One of my favorite techniques is using stencils and modeling paste.
Robyn carries both in the store.
This painting was done using two different stencils and liquitex modeling paste and acrylic paint.
To bring out the detail of the stencil, after I painted it, I went around each edge with watered down brown/black acrylic paint.  Smear it with your finger.  The shadow adds a lot of dimension.

My verse was printed out on my computer and added with Liquitex gel medium.  You want to also go around the edge of that with watered down paint.  Helps to make it go into the canvas.

You'll find lots of stencils-large and small in Robyns shop.  She has lots of choices on acrylic paint as well.  And I can't live without the Liquitex gesso, matte gel medium and modeling paste!!  They are a MUST have for me!!

Have a great Friday!

Rose canvas painting

I found a new mixed media site.  This month they are doing painting as their focus.
Challenge #12
This is 8x10 canvas.  I used acrylic paints.  Getting my highlights and lowlights right was challenging.  I used some stencils on the background.  I used a stencil on the vase that a friend of mine designed- Retta Sumpter.

Mixed Media with Stencils

I have a shirt that I've been wanting to duplicate in some way.  I love the colors and the design.

I started with a 9x12 fiberboard.  I applied a layer of gesso and allowed to dry. I sprayed some inks-blues and greens, allow to dry a little and then blot with paper towel.  Allow to dry completely. Using stencils I sponged vintage photo over top in various places.
To highlight my stencils, I used black fine tip pitt pen and white broad tip pitt pen to make lines and dots.  It didn't show up good at first, so I sealed the top with Liquitex Matte Gel and allowed to dry.

My gorgeous flower-I took a piece of mixed media paper and wiped up the excess inks on my mat, ran the paper thru my big shot using a stampin up flower die.  Layered them and put a bead in the middle.  The leaves were cut with a cricut cartridge and then I ink them up a bit to blend.
I printed my sentiment on the computer using different fonts.
I love how it turned out.  The blues and greens swirling....Oh-to finish it off, I rubbed Traditions black paint around the edges.

I hope you'll be inspired to pull a design from something you like to wear!!
Have a fabulous Friday!!

Multi Media Canvas

I've been practicing a new techqniue with Ranger spray ink.
I did the first layer with yellow, then layed some flowers and spritze with cranberry.
Using a roll of paper towels, I rolled overtop of it.
After it dried I hand drew my lady and painted her with acrylics.
This next canvas I layered papers, scripture and wild orchid flowers.
The next box canvas I used my new stencil from OWSE. Had lots of fun making this one. Used an image from Meljen's design.. I colored my image with pencils. Added some foam snowflakes that I coated with blue glitter.
